Mayor Suspends Farmers Markets, Freezes Rent Hikes on Rent-Controlled Units
Updated: Apr 2, 2020
March 30, 2020 — Mayor Eric Garcetti announced today a temporary shut-down of all farmers markets due to concerns about overcrowding. All farmers markets will be suspended until they submit plans showing they can ensure 6 feet of distance between patrons.
The Mayor also announced a freeze on rent increases on residential units covered by the City's rent control ordinance. Garcetti also amended the rules under the city's eviction freeze, saying residential tenants will now have a full 12 months to pay back what they owe. Commercial tenants will have three months.
